- It’s the cheapest to get started – seriously, it costs less than $7 a month
- It’s the most flexible – you can work whatever hours you want to on whatever days you like!
- You are in charge of your business – no reporting to anyone else!
When I first started to take blogging seriously, my little girl was just a couple of months old.
I used her nap times and bed time to either catch up on sleep or to learn everything possible about blogging.
I read posts from top bloggers and signed up for email lists that matched my interests – this is the most inexpensive way to get a blogging education.
Getting started was hard work but after a while, the money started coming in and it felt great!
What do bloggers do?
Bloggers’ days really vary.
For me, a typical week includes the following activities:
- planning and writing blog posts
- updating older blog posts
- taking photos for social media
- creating pins for Pinterest and launching a handful of new ones
- posting to social media
- Instagram stories – promoting old and new posts, other social accounts
- Twitter – sharing old and new posts plus inspiring blog posts written by others
- Facebook – sharing old and new posts plus sharing funny memes or news on my page
- housekeeping – making sure my site runs well all over the world and on all devices – mobile, desktop, and tablet

No computer or tech knowledge is required for blogging.
You just need to have a focus and be interested enough in the topic(s) to continue creating great new content.
For example, as stay at home moms, we talk about our kids and mom life more than anything. You could start a blog on parenting and share helpful advice with other moms and dads.
There are millions of blogs out there and a ton of successful bloggers.

2. Instagram influencer
Nope, not kidding!
You can create a part time job with your Instagram account.
I became an Instagram content creator when I started posting on social media in exchange for free products.
I was part of a number of product review clubs and couldn’t believe how easy it was to get free full sized products and groceries in exchange for Instagram posts!
My sister introduced me to product reviews when I was on bedrest near the end of my first pregnancy – it was a great way to contribute financially despite my situation.
What happened blew my mind!
I had one month where I received over $2,000 in product and then I started getting paid offers.
sponsors were looking for me to try their product and pay me to post about it on social media!
This is crazy, right?!
I also only had about 1,000 Instagram followers at the time!
What do influencers do?
Instagram influencers spend most of their time creating platform specific content like:
To be successful as an Instagram influencer, decide on what you will do now.
Instagram users follow celebrities because well, they’re celebrities!
You need to do something besides just taking pretty pictures to stand out, especially in the beginning.

3. Photo editing
Photo editors are the virtual assistants of the photography world!
It’s amazing how much more beautiful a photo can look after just a couple of adjustments.
What do photo editors do?
You’ll spend most of your time on either Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop making basic modifications to light and colour plus straightening and cropping photos.

Graphic designers are key in branding and select everything from typefaces and photos while developing layouts for brochures, advertisements, and other projects.
A Graphic Designer needs to understand how to use Adobe Illustrator and other Adobe Creative Cloud software.

Web designers are in charge of aesthetic and are responsible for choosing colors, fonts, layout, and images to give a website or blog its personality.

What do interior designers do?

They curate decor and essential items as well as making sure that furniture is both thoughtfully selected and placed – this ensures both a safe and aesthetic setting.
Interior designers work with clients including homeowners and corporations to create spaces as unique as they are.
How much does an interior designer make?
Interior designers earn around $25 an hour for their work.

To start working as an independent interior designer, consider enrolling in an online course like Intro to Interior Design.
You’ll learn basic knowledge including terminology, drawing skills, and inspiration styles.

7. Proofreader
Every day or everyday? There or their? To hyphenate or not to hyphenate?
If you have excellent written language skills, then proofreading could be for you!
What do proofreaders do?
Proofreaders check for spelling, grammatical, punctuational, formatting, syntax, and other errors in content.
Proofreading is detailed worked that requires meticulous grammar skills, patience, and motivation.
Similar to being a virtual assistant or photo editor, work is also client-based but you can set your own hours and choose a workload that fits your lifestyle.

What does a transcriber do?
A transcriber (or transcriptionist) is a professional typist who listens to recorded audio files and converts them into a text file.
Audio files can range from lectures and conversations to interviews and meetings.
Similar to proofreading, transcribing is a client-based job and requires strong listening and grammar skills.

Similar to eBay, an Amazon store owner sources products and lists them through this online marketplace.
Items are usually in new or lightly used condition and can be found at:
- wholesalers like Alibaba
- store closing out sales
- auctions
- dollar stores
- and more!
The biggest differences between eBay and Amazon are:
- Amazon focuses on the sale of new items while eBay offers more flexibility for secondhand – you can sell a wider variety of things on eBay
- auction style listings are not present on Amazon
- fees including listings and the cost of your monthly storefront are different between the two

What does a Shopify store owner do?
Shopify store owners curate products through online marketplaces and/or list their own handmade items.

What is Etsy?
Etsy is an online marketplace that focuses on handmade products, craft supplies, and vintage items.

Like the other online marketplaces we discussed above, an Etsy store owner is responsible for curating products and managing those listings in their online shop.
Again, this can include photography, writing titles and descriptions, managing orders, and more.

I have a close friend who makes a ton of money thrifting!
She specializes in designer clothing and has found everything from brand new Lululemon to authentic Louis Vuitton at thrift stores!
Thrifting is one of the most exciting side jobs for stay at home moms and has the potential to earn you a full-time income.

Depending on the brand, she’ll then either take it to a consignment shop, list it in the Facebook Marketplace, or in her eBay store.
During her mat leave, she would take her little one for a stroll while shopping and take pictures plus list items while baby sleeps.

Yes, you can make a lot!
Thrifters can earn between $500 to $15,000 a month.
How to start thrifting:
Decide on a type of fashion you love and know well.
It could be anything from vintage to designer clothing or athletic wear. Or, maybe you just love purses!
Now, learn everything else there is to know about it – including how to spot fakes and authenticating the real deal.
Once you’re confident in your knowledge of the product, start hitting up places like Goodwill, Value Village, and even consignment stores.
Shop for what you know will sell and list it on your platform of choice:

There are three different methods of t-shirt printing available:

- heat transfer

An event planner coordinates meetings and events – this could include local markets, weddings, birthday parties, conventions, conferences, business meetings, and more.
As an event planner, you are responsible for all aspects of that event including:

I have a friend who makes good money doing this just outside of Vancouver, BC!
My family and I also stayed in one in Croatia and it was the highlight of our trip – nothing beats experiencing small town life in a local dwelling.

- makeup
- esthetics
- nails
Doing hair, nails, makeup, or even aesthetician work in the comfort of your own or friends homes is a wonderful way to generate an income using a special skill set that you already have!
I have a very good friend who does my hair at home and can’t image ever going back to a salon. Our chats are amazing and heartwarming, the setting is comfortable, and I don’t have to worry about childcare.
Supporting friends, families, and local businesses also feels great!

Beauty professionals make money to make their clients’ feel good about their appearance!

Photographers blend artistic and technical skills to create beautiful images.

I bet you’ve watched at least one couponing show in your lifetime- and as a stay at home mom in Vancouver, Canada, I can tell you that this is even possible if you’re not from the United States!

When I had my little girl, I knew there was no way I was going back to finish my degree – I couldn’t image a minute away from her, never mind 8 or more hours a day!
Starting a blog was the best decision I ever made for my family so, I always recommend it first when talking about how stay at home moms can make money.
There was a learning curve but it was worth it and honestly, you can teach yourself how to do almost everything with a Google Search – heck, I’m now the proud owner of a mom blog with a ridiculously fast loading time of 1.1 seconds (the average web page takes 7 seconds to load, in case you’re wondering :P).
I have zero background in computers, marketing, design, and social media.

I created a legitimate stay at home mom job with just three things:
- Determination
- Willingness to learn every day
- Dedication
