Ready, set? Let’s get growing and create a popular blog!
(1) Write about content people are actually interested in
Consider your audience before writing each post.
Who are your ideal readers and/or what is the predominant demographic currently reading your blog?
Be sure to signup for Google Search Console to get a better understanding of your viewers and switch your Pinterest and Instagram accounts from personal to business accounts.
Having access to these powerful analytics are game changing and can teach you everything from the right time to post to what your next article should be about – writing about popular blog topics is key to getting people to click on your links.

(2) Use Google To Do Your Research
Ready to write popular blog posts that get shares?
If you haven’t signed up for it yet, get on Google Search Console pronto!
You’ll want to research those queries that WordPress doesn’t give you access to using this tool.
See how readers are stumbling upon your blog and target your posts and titles accordingly:
- Update meta-descriptions to align better with search queries
- Come up with new ideas for blog posts
- Add relevant tags to new and old articles
and much more!
Blog post writing for SEO is so much different than freestyle writing – to write a popular blog, you’ll want to:
- review terms you’re already ranking for
- checkout blog post examples of those ranking in the first and second spots on Google
- search related terminology and incorporate it into those blog posts
When you do your research, you’re setting yourself up for success – using Google Search Console should always be a part of your blog post planning process!
(3) Don’t Focus On Your Personal Life
Just like any other mom out there, I love talking about my little girl!
But a personal blog with journal entry type posts isn’t what makes me money.
#truthbomb
People who run Google and Pinterest searches are generally looking to learn something or solve a problem and it’s up to you to provide a fresh take or innovative solution – a must have in how to write a good blog!
When you imagine your ideal reader, who do you think of? How did they come across your blog? What did they run into Google Search to find you? Blogging successfully means being a go to resource and providing value to your readers!Â
Use your blog for business talk and let your personality shine through your social media accounts – I save my mom talk for Instagram and post personal blurbs here from time to time in between sponsored content and advertising my blog.
This keeps my profile looking fresh and balanced!
(4) Stick To Topics Related To Your Niche
The most successful blogs are focused.
And while you might be saying, “but hey, I’m a lifestyle blogger!” consider narrowing it down just a tad bit.
Instead of writing about 10 different categories, focus on five – I hit my own 10,000 viewer month once I made this drastic change to focusing on blog post topics within my niche.
Rather than writing about whatever the heck I wanted to whenever I felt like it, I use an agenda and blog post planner to plan my posts so they relate to one another.
Do you remember making mind maps in school? These must have been a part of my life all the way from middle school throughout university! Today, I still use them as a blogger!
Consider a topic you enjoy. For the sake of this example, let’s pretend its fashion.
So, three possible upcoming pieces might be:
- Why you should downsize your wardrobe today
- How to design your own capsule wardrobe
- 10 pieces that never go out of styleÂ
Now, looping back around the other way. Fashion can easily tie into a lifestyle blog but for great flow, let’s consider those four other topics we’ll add to you navigation menu.
Perhaps, these could be:Â
- Makeup
- Skincare
- Hair
- Nails
All relative and all vanity topics that the same users who want to read about fashion might also be interested in!
The main goal here is to keep users coming back – plus, perhaps those searching for new nail designs might check out your piece on building a capsule wardrobe, etc.
We’re focusing in on a theme and creating flow!
(5) Do Your Edits
Be sure to read over your articles and make sure they’re free of spelling and grammatical errors – we all make them but its possible to minimize mistakes with a little effort!
An amazing browser extension for this sole purpose is Grammarly.Â
Sometimes as bloggers, we get so fatigued from all of the writing and daily screen time – even after countless edits, our brains will fill in the blanks (i.e. letters and missing words) or miss the most basic errors.
This is when Grammarly has your back!
Also consider reviewing old posts to keep them fresh whenever your schedule permits – Google likes content that’s kept up to date, so this will improve your SEO as well. Talk about win-win!
(6) Promote Content Accurately Using Effective Platforms
Clickbait is so annoying, isn’t it?
Realizing the answer to that question the article set out to answer isn’t actually there or that you just wasted how many minutes reading this?
Always be sure that your catchy pins or article titles are a precise reflection of what your content is actually about!
While my story begins with Instagram (and using great hashtags plus having an amazing hashtag strategy can help you gain exposure), there are two other means of blog traffic that are much more valuable to me at this time:
Ranking within the first few results and on the first page, respectively, of these two search engines catapulted my blog’s status and reputation.
If you want to make money with your blog, utilize these tools and build your authority.
As a visual search engine, gorgeous pins are a major part of drawing viewers into your blog.
However, optimizing your Pinterest profile to reflect what it is you do and your unique take on it is an absolute essential. Custom branded board covers for Pinterest will also help you stand out from the crowd and create cohesion between your Pinterest profile and blog.
Use keywords in both your pins and your profile for maximum results!
Ranking on the first page of Google is an incredibly powerful means of gaining exposure for your blog or business website.

(7) Be Consistent
Determine your own golden rules of blogging and create a writing and release blog post schedule that you can manage!
Yes, I said try! As parents especially, this can be difficult to do. Life can be unpredictable and so can kids.
We get sick from time to time, life throws us curveballs, obligations call, and so much more. But I truly feel that as long as you plan, you plan to succeed!
Set a goal that is manageable for you and your life.
Right now for me, that’s one post a week! Maybe this is what you can handle too.
As a work at home mom of a toddler who enjoys plenty of lap and cuddle time, my working hours take place when my little girl goes down for a nap and when she’s asleep for the night.
My husband also works more than 80 hours a week, so relying on him for more than one day a week is unrealistic.
I have to be incredibly organized and do my best to plan and fill my agenda with the utmost priorities.
Some weeks, these are sponsored Instagram posts and other weeks, this is publishing one major blog post – do what works for you and don’t beat yourself up if this week was a challenge.
All good things take time as does does building an empire 🙂
If I can do this, so can you!
Congratulations on taking the first steps in learning how to write a good blog! You’re already on your way to creating content that gets more shares and helps more people just like yourself.
