What is Poshmark?
Poshmark is an online fashion resale app where users can buy or sell new or used clothing, accessories, and even home goods.
You can search for things by price, name brands, types of clothing, color, and more.
You’ll find all sorts of different designer brands too – from Louis Vuitton to Chanel.
Since I started selling on Poshmark, I always check this app before buying any items in store too – there are a ton of people (I’m also guilty of this) who buy things, never wear them, and then sell them later on!
You can save a ton of money by shopping on Poshmark before you browse elsewhere.
Who should sell on Poshmark?
Selling on Poshmark is for anyone who has clothing, accessories, or home goods that they want to sell.
Poshmark is currently available in the United States, Canada, and Australia and offers low rate domestic shipping fees.
Users CANNOT ship internationally across Poshmark.
However, if you are located in Canada or the United States and have an international post box located in your neighbouring country, you could purchase items this way.
For instance, a Canadian buyer can purchase items from a US seller if shipping to a US address.
Why should you sell on Poshmark?
There are plenty of reasons to sell your clothes on Poshmark.
From personal experience, I can tell you that you’ll make WAY more money selling them on this platform than you will on Facebook Marketplace!
I learned the hard way.
Instead of selling bundles of unwanted clothing just to clear up space in our home, listing items one at a time with high-quality photos has earned me up to 20x more PER item!
That’s a HUGE difference for a little extra effort.
What can I sell on Poshmark?
There are a wide variety of items you can sell on Poshmark.
Like I mentioned before, clothing, accessories, and home goods all sell very well.
Here are Posh’s main categories:
The first thing I ever sold on Posh was baby clothes!
It was a set of two Kyte baby sleepers that went for $30.
How to Sell on Poshmark
Step 1: Download the App
It’s available on both the App Store and Play Store.
Step 2: Enter Details for your Poshmark account
After you’ve downloaded the app, the next step is to fill out all of your information (first name, last name, email, username, password, etc.).
Your location will determine which version of Poshmark you’ll be able to sell and buy on.
Step 3: List your first item.
To sell an item on Posh, click the Camera icon with the word Sell underneath it – this should be located at the bottom centre of your mobile device’s screen.
Take a photo of the item to start – I like using the “main view” of the item (for example, an overhead shot of the front of a jacket, side view of a pair of shoes, etc.).
You will want to take at least four photos but I recommend using all 16 of the allowed slots.
Even if it feels redundant, you’ll know that you haven’t missed anything and buyers will be less likely to dispute a purchase afterwards.
This ensures that buyers can see all of the important details and any imperfections.
You should present items nicely, use a hairdryer to give them a quick “iron” if they’re wrinkled, and be sure to remove tags that have the price on them – especially if they were thrifted!
Note: I recommend taking all of your photos within the app but you can upload them from your phone’s camera roll.
Taking photos at the time of listing ensures that the item’s condition is EXACTLY as it is right now.
Step 4: Decide on a Price
Take some time to get an idea of what the item would be worth online – compare to eBay, Mercari, or other sites that are popular for reselling.
Poshmark also offers suggestions for what people have purchased similar things to in the past but I’ve found that starting higher leads them to offer you these prices anyway!
I’ve had the most success with starting at double what I want for the item.
If it doesn’t sell, I’ll slowly drop the price after that.
There are also different promotions like Closet Clearout where Poshmark will reward you for lowering your prices with cheaper shipping for potential buyers.
Fill in the number you want to get for it in the Listing Price – this is how much you’ll sell it for on Posh but Your Earnings are shown below this.
Poshmark takes a percentage of the Listing Price in order to pay for their services.
Now that you’ve got your price set, let’s move on to the next step!
Step 5: List Your Poshmark Item
Once you’ve determined an item’s:
- original price (how much you paid for it or retail)
- listing price (how much you want for it)
as well as writing a title and description for it, you’ll be able to click Next at the top right-hand corner of your screen.
You’ll have the option to connect social networks to your Posh account including:
Sharing your listings cross-platform can increase sales by up to 23%!
When you’re ready, click List.
That’s it – you listed your first item on Poshmark, woohoo!
How to use Poshmark
Poshmark is a great way to sell your unwanted items.
Here are 5 tips that will help you sell quickly on Posh with little effort.
1. Use the most correct category while listing an item
Different categories have different buyers, so choose the most relevant one to your product and one that will be profitable to you.
Sometimes the right category might not be available though.
For instance, I have a set of Anthropologie handles for sale right now but Posh doesn’t have a handles category.
Unfortunately, I had to list them in Home – Other as a result but people have still managed to find them and Like the listing!
Since I used the word “dresser” in my description (to explain why I originally purchased the handles), Poshmark even sent me this lovely warning to let me know that they wouldn’t cover the shipping costs for such a large item – hahaha!
2. Be as descriptive as possible in your listing title
- condition of the item
- and size
If it matches a shoppers interests off the bat, they’re more likely to click through to check out your listing.
3. Repeat details from your title in the listing description
Describe your item in as much depth as possible.
It is also CRUCIAL to list all imperfections such a pilling, pulls, stains, and other damage here.
4. Take good photos
Good photographs are essential for sales but they don’t always come naturally!
I like using my kitchen floor as the background in my photos.
I’ve also managed to clear a ton of product FAST this way.
Just have a look at some of the photos posted on Posh and you’ll see what I mean about how adding 16 high-quality photos will help you sell fast on Poshmark.
A little more effort usually means quicker turnover!
Note: You can also list groups of items for sale in one listing! The image above is a lot of three Kyte baby hats I sold.
Keep in mind that Posh labels are paid for a 5-pound weight limit though, so you need to make sure your clothing lot weights less than this.
5. Show multiple photos and different angles
Always try to fill the 16 photo slots you’re allotted and if you want, create a video for the items you’re selling.
Take photos of all sides of the item and even the insides if applicable (pockets of purses, insides of shoes, jeans, etc.).
When taking pictures of an item for sale, it’s important to take pictures from both the front and backside in addition to less viewed areas.

Shipping on Poshmark is easy!
Once your item is sold, you’ll immediately get an email from Posh with the shipping label attached – wow!
Just click the shipping label file to open and print it.
Cut it out to fit on your mailing package and secure it with packing tape (start by taping over the barcode first to ensure scannability).
I know – this seems like the most intimidating part of selling online, doesn’t it?
I like to carry my parcels to the post office in a reusable shopping bag – it keeps them together so nothing gets forgotten.

Take photos using natural light – it makes SUCH a difference!
Natural lighting is best because it gives more depth to photos and adds a professional quality to them without the need for more expensive photography gear.

How to start selling on Poshmark
To get started on Poshmark, you’ll need a few things including:
- poly mailers – my sister runs a highly successful eBay store and suggested two sizes: the larger 10×13 size fits most men’s and women’s clothing items and you’ll also want to pick up THIS larger size if you plan on selling purses.
- bubble mailers – this 4×8 size is good for small cosmetics but you should get the 5×10 larger size for eyeshadow palettes.
- stock paper for thank you cards
- tissue paper (recycled from birthday gifts is fine and encouraged since it’s good for the environment)
- sharpies (for writing thank you notes)
- tape (to seal fluffy paper and attach thank you notes)
- packing tape (for sticking on packaging labels and as extra security for tightly packed items)
- scissors (to cut shipping labels and thank you cards from stock paper)
- printer (to print shipping labels)
- white paper (same as above!)
Here are my poly mailers and bubble mailers – they’re perfect for sending off most things. If you plan on selling purses though, you’ll want to pick up a larger mailing bag like this one.
Optional items to sell like a pro:
- clothing rack
- hangers (these non-slip ones save a TON of space and you can even use them for small purses!)
- plastic bins (I like see through ones for larger items like shoes and bags – it makes it easier to find something as soon as its sold!)
- plastic bin to organize mailing supplies (I converted a pantry organizer for mine, haha)
I store all of my listings on the same clothing rack so they’re out of reach from my kids and I always know where everything is!
I keep smaller listed items like cosmetics in a plastic organizer and do the same for my shipping tools and gifts (things like cosmetics samples, stationary, etc.)
How does Poshmark pay you?
There are two ways you can get paid by Poshmark:
- Poshmark credits
- Direct deposit
You can easily set up direct despot using a void cheque or your online banking details.
Selling on Poshmark is a great way to make extra cash while cleaning up your closet and home in the process!
You’ll make more money selling with this app than you would with Facebook Marketplace because you have access to people all over the country – some of which are looking for EXACTLY what you have to offer.
Poshmark is REALLY easy to use and with a few basic supplies like:
- poly mailers (10×13 fits most clothing items!)
- bubble mailers (for cosmetics)
- tissue paper
- packing tape
- stock paper
- printer and white paper
you’ll be able to start selling your unwanted clothing and home goods right away.
Shipping is also super easy since Posh offers $7.11 standard shipping (paid by the buyer – $13.99 in Canada) and all you have to do is print off the shipping label.
