DIY Christmas Gifts Under $50

DIY gifts are one of our favorite ways to save money while making things personal. Here are some great ideas that kids can help with too.

  • Homemade bookmarks – we gift these for all occasions now. I find cards to be a waste of money since they only get read once and then shelved! Bookmarks are something avid readers use every day and can enjoy again and again. I’ll post a complete tutorial for how we make and laminate ours at home soon.
  • Homemade sugar scrubs in mason jars – this is a great recipe.
  • Candle jars – here’s a simple way to make these at home.
  • Hot cocoa mix in a jar – so easy to do and then just layer it with marshmallows.
  • Homemade spice blends – great for the cooks in your life
  • Baked goodies – cookies, banana bread, and peppermint bark are fun ones

Stocking Stuffers Under $50

Great for kids, teens, and even adults. You can mix and match these to fill up stockings too.

These also double perfectly as classroom gifts or small friend gifts.

How to Save Money on Christmas Shopping

A little strategy can go a long way and it starts with being intentional.

Consider doing the following this year.

Shop Early & Watch Lightning Deals

Flash sales on Amazon happen all month long.

Sometimes items actually get less expensive on a random Tuesday than on Black Friday!

Combine Coupons with Subscribe & Save

Amazon constantly offers coupons plus subscribe and save discounts on a ton of household items and groceries.

We just got one of my kids’ favorite snacks for 25% off because it was on special when we subscribed to it rather than making a one time purchase.

You can always cancel later on if you end up with a surplus, haha.

More Christmas Fun for This Year:

Set a Family Budget

Talk to friends and siblings and set limits on what you’ll spend for kids’ gifts or one another – we find that this is usually where we go over.

This year we set a family budget to limit how much we spend on each family as a whole, I think this helps so much.

Holidays can be an emotional rollercoaster when it comes to shopping and gifting!

You don’t want to feel like you didn’t do enough because that’s not what this is supposed to be about.

A little awkward conversation now can prevent discomfort later on during gift opening time so its worth having.

Then, you can just enjoy one another, watch the kids play, and make even sing a few Christmas songs together.

Final Thoughts: Christmas on a Budget is a Blessing

You don’t need to overspend to make Christmas memorable for your family and friends!

That’s not what this is supposed to be about.

Too often, many of us have gotten caught up in the consumerism rather than celebrating the true meaning of the season – I know I’m guilty.

Let’s remember to thank God for what He did for us and the blessings he’s provided us with – our family, friends, and a wonderful opportunity to spend time together over the holidays.

Some of our favorite holiday traditions are completely free – walking around Christmas markets, baking cookies together, reading Christmas books by the tree, doing crafts at the kitchen table, and singing and playing Christmas songs together.

I hope this list of Christmas gifts under $50 has given you a few ideas that are thoughtful and affordable for the ones you love this season.

Merry Christmas, friend!
